Proud Mary Theatre Company presents our first musical: the South Carolina community theatre premiere of “Fun Home” with a LIVE ORCHESTRA.

This Tony Award-winning musical based on the best-selling graphic novel by Alison Bechdel runs June 7-16 in the Venue at the West Main Artists Co-Operative.

Groundbreaking and often heartbreaking, “Fun Home” depicts the author at three different ages as she recalls growing up in her family’s FUNeral home, her first year of college, and her relationship with her father.

“Fun Home” is directed by Kate Roark, who helmed Proud Mary’s “5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche” and “Spamalot” at Spartanburg Little Theatre.

Music Director Janice Issa Wright (“The Rocky Horror Show,” “Spring Awakening,” “Urinetown” at The Warehouse Theatre”) will conduct our live orchestra.

“Fun Home” runs June 7-16, 2019 at the West Main Artists Co-Operative, 578 West Main St. in Spartanburg. For more information, visit www.proudmarytheatre.com. Shows are Friday-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 pm. with one Thursday show June at 8 p.m.

Gay Chorus Deep South – Film Screening @ The Peace Center

The documentary film Gay Chorus Deep South chronicles the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus and the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir as they embarked on a 2017 tour of the American Deep South in hopes of uniting in a time of difference.

Led by Gay Chorus Conductor Dr. Tim Seelig, the tour brought a message of music, love, and acceptance to communities and individuals confronting intolerance. Over 300 singers traveled from Mississippi to Tennessee through the Carolinas and over the bridge in Selma, performing in churches, community centers, and concert halls. The journey challenged Seeling and other chorus members who fled the South to confront their own fears, pain, and prejudices on a journey towards reconciliation.

At the End of the Day: Film w/ Q&A by PFLAG Spartanburg

Do not wait - the way this screening works is that we have to sell enough tickets before the deadline to confirm the screening. Get your tickets now, as we need to sell 84 tickets before June 10th!

Sponsored by PFLAG Spartanburg! This film tactfully examines the conflict between the LGBTQ community and religious communities.

Winner of the Audience Choice award at the Tampa Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, this film really explores the conflict between religious groups and the LGBTQ community in an honest and meaningful way. It also explores what the LGBTQ community initially looks like when you are still using the lens that comes from an evangelical background, which is something that a lot of us can relate to.

I hope you can join us for this amazing film; we will be having discussions before and after the film as well.

Here are remarks from Tugg, who is handling the logistics of this event:
===================================================

Spartanburg, SC - we're heading your way! But get your tickets fast...

A conservative, Christian professor finds himself planted in a gay support group to stop their opening of an LGBTQ homeless youth shelter in their small town.

Tickets are NOT available for purchase at the door. Make sure you get your tickets here: http://bit.ly/2ZbAITw
